wonderful wednesday

More on the family front – but all good stuff!

Craig and I received some wonderful news today. It turns out that his mom’s latest PET scan showed zero signs of cancer!!

If you recall, back in December, she was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer that had spread to her liver and several lymph nodes. She was given a prognosis of 12 months to live. We were told that at this stage, the goal was not to cure her cancer, but to treat the symptoms for as long as possible.

But now, after 8 chemo treatments, there is no cancer at all. How amazing is that?!

(Apparently it’s even amazing to her oncologist, who apparently seemed to be genuinely puzzled (and pleased) by her test results.)

Heide was a trooper through the chemo sessions. She never complained about not feeling well until after the last one. Craig said she was very happy today, and noted that she said she got what she wanted, which was to be done with the chemo.

Next she will meet with the surgeon, who will discuss surgical options to try to prevent some instances of recurrence. Apparently a mastectomy and removal of the lymph nodes may be helpful in that regard. But that’s to be discussed and examined.

We know that this may not be the end of her cancer story, but for today, it’s simply wonderful news!
