lazy days

I’m already halfway through my vacation from work. 😦

I really like how we scheduled this vacation. We had several days at home and accomplished quite a bit, but also had a great deal of fun. We wrapped up everything we could on the adoption front, and we are enjoying some time away from chasing paper. I am fairly disappointed that our home study is still not written, but obviously it is out of our hands. Our latest update from the social worker is that it will be ready the week of August 31st. Oh well.

We are at my mom’s house in Ann Arbor, Michigan now, enjoying a few days with her, and on Monday we’ll head up to Prentiss Bay (near Hessel and Cedarville on the north shore of Lake Huron) in the Upper Peninsula to spend time with my dad and stepmother at their cabin. We’ve never visited the family before when it’s just us – usually at least one of my brothers is around – so it’s nice and low-key. When we’re up north we’ll probably even be Internet-free. (They only have dial-up at the cabin, and to us, that’s about the same as not having Internet access at all!) The thought is simultaneously scary and liberating.

So far today we slept in, exercised, finished the movie we started last night, grabbed sandwiches at Zingerman’s Deli (an Ann Arbor institution), and wandered around downtown and the University of Michigan campus, which is always fun. I’m often reminded that Ann Arbor is really a great town. We just took a short nap and next up is a special birthday dinner for my mom at West End Grill.

Adoption studies seem so long and grueling. Hang in there. I can't wait until it's all done and over and you are posting pics of your new little one. 🙂

Sounds like a great vacay! I've never been to Ann Arbor but I've heard it's really cool. Enjoy the rest of your relaxing time off! If you are indeed "off the grid" at the cabin, we'll miss you in the blogosphere 🙂

You must be so relieved that the paperwork on your end is done… for now! The next set will be your referral acceptance papers! Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

I used to live in AA and think it's a great town. I love Zingermans! Enjoy your time. I think getting unplugged from time to time is so good for our mental health.

Sounds like a great vaca… it's sad how they go so quickly, isn't it?! Enjoy your time "tuned out!" We'll look forward to your return!
