lucy in the sky with diamonds

I write with the heaviest heart, because we let our sweet Lucy go to beagle heaven last night. She had a cycle of seizures that was still going after 24 hours and intervention from the veterinarian. We remembered back to her last batch of these horrible seizures when we decided we wouldn’t make her go through this again, and we advised our veterinarian that we didn’t want any extreme or heroic treatment. We talked with our vet at 10pm and she advised that Lucy needed further treatment if she was going to stand a chance. She was afraid Lucy would arrest overnight. So, we went to the animal hospital, spent a few minutes with our goosey girl, and we were there as she fell asleep. Our veterinarian was wonderful throughout all of this – as we knew she would be – and we all shed tears together for our truly special dog.

We are devastated, but we also find solace in knowing that Lucy is at peace and that she will not ever have to go through anything like this again. Our five years with Lucy were challenging at times, but she always brought us a tremendous amount of joy and unconditional love. She was the sweetest dog, always up for a snuggle, and she had a look to her face that would make us melt. Lucy was healthier than ever over the past several months, and we know that she lived a very good life until the end.

Farewell, sweet girl. We will miss you so very much.

Oh, Kelly, I’m so very, very sorry. What a wonderful life you gave her – better than many would or could have. She was blessed to have that time with you, and loves you so much for all you shared. She’s still around, you just can’t see her.I’ll be thinking and praying for you all.XOXOX
