Mr. Maple has made great strides since he was planted near-death about a year ago. I’d guess that about 1/3 of his branches didn’t survive the trauma of the transplant in such poor shape, so I trimmed them out the other day (those that I could reach with a precariously placed ladder, that is), but he looks good otherwise. I think we’ll have an oddly-shaped tree for a while, but I’m hoping things will fill out over time.
